The tender striped fern ( Asplenium lepidum ) is a representative of the striped fern ( Asplenium ) that occurs in Central Europe only in the Alps .
features
The tender striped fern reaches heights of 4 to 10 cm. The fronds are double to triple pinnate and resemble those of the wall diamond . The last sections are over 2 mm wide, wedge-shaped at the base and rounded and notched at the top. The leaf blade is tender, deciduous and mostly covered with glandular hairs. The petiole is equal to or longer than the leaf blade. The stem is green, brown at the base and around 1 mm thick. The sporangia not cover maturity the underside of the leaflets to the top. The spores ripen in July to September.
The chromosome number is 2n = 144. The species is tetraploid .
distribution
The tender striped fern occurs in Central Europe only in the Austrian Alps. It is rare here in Lower Austria and Styria and is potentially endangered. In the rest of Europe including the Mediterranean region, it occurs in Spain, France, Italy, Sicily, Hungary, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Romania and the Balkan Peninsula as far as Crete and also in Western Asia. It grows in the crevices of vertical to overhanging limestone rock walls of the montane height level .

- Asplenium lepidum subsp. haussknechtii (Godet & Reut.) Brownsey (Syn .: Asplenium haussknechtii Godet & Reut. , Asplenium hermanni-christii Fomin ): It occurs in Spain, Romania, Crete and the Middle East.
