Karel Bořivoj Presl (born February 17, 1794 in Prague , † October 8, 1852 ibid) was a Bohemian, k. k. Austrian botanist . His first name is also written Carl or Carel or Carolus , his middle name also occurs in the spelling Bořiwog , Boriwog , Boriwag . Its official botanical author's abbreviation is " C.Presl "; earlier the abbreviation " KB Presl " was also in use.

Life

Presl was a professor of natural history and technology at the University of Prague. His brother Jan Svatopluk Presl (1791-1849) was a professor of zoology and mineralogy. His mother was Maria Theresia Anna Presl, b. Straka. C. Presl honored her with the name of the plant genus Strakaea C.Presl from the family of aristolochiaceae (Aristolochiaceae). Maria Theresia Anna Presl had two sons and four daughters.

Honors

Him and his brother Jan Svatopluk Presl honor the species was Preslia Opiz the plant family of the mint (Lamiaceae) and the genus Preslianthus Iltis & Cornejo from the family of capparaceae named (Capparaceae).

The magazine Preslia , which has been published since 1914, is also named after the two brothers.

In 1837 he was elected a member of the Leopoldina . From 1838 Presl was a corresponding member of the Prussian Academy of Sciences .
