Zbigniew Nitecki

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Zbigniew H. Nitecki (born May 12, 1946 in Plymouth ) is an American mathematician .

Nitecki went to school in Chicago and studied mathematics at the University of Chicago with a bachelor's degree in 1962 and at the University of California, Berkeley , with a master's degree in 1967 and a doctorate with Stephen Smale in 1969 ( The orbit structure of endomorphisms ). As a post-graduate student , he was a Gibbs instructor at Yale University until 1971 . In 1971 he became an assistant professor at the City College of New York and in 1972 at Tufts University , where he became an associate professor in 1975 and a professor in 1980.

Among other things, he was visiting scholar at the University of Göttingen , IHES , the University of Warwick and the University of Nice.

He deals with dynamic systems (especially in the one and two dimensions), theory of braids, combinatorial and geometric group theory, graph theory and cellular automata.

He has been a US citizen since 1956.
