Zdeněk Maryška (born April 17, 1947 in Marienbad , Czechoslovakia ) is a Czech actor . He emigrated to the USA in 1985 , where he later also accepted US citizenship. Since 1996 he has been living in the Czech Republic again.

Life

Zdeněk Maryška completed his acting studies at the Janáček Academy for Music and Performing Arts in Brno . After completing his studies, he stayed in the city and played in various theaters, including the Brno City Theater and the Národní divadlo Brno . In the early 1980s he emigrated to the USA. He lived first in California, then in Chicago and finally in New York City for the last eleven years before returning to the Czech Republic in 1996 . For the first five years he was not hired for an acting job despite countless auditions. During this time he worked as a waiter. When he was accepted for further acting studies at the renowned The Actors Studio , he was able to make several contacts with established actors, which gave him the opportunity to play again.

His film debut was in the 1973 television drama Klec in a minor supporting role. During his time in the United States, he did not appear in any film or television productions. However, he was active in the theater and played with Paul Newman and for Sidney Lumet , among others . Since he returned to the Czech Republic, he quickly established himself as an actor and, through this detour and his Hollywood agent, found the opportunity to work in American film productions such as Du live 7 days and Dune - The Desert Planet .

He also played increasingly in German film productions. He was seen in films such as Napola - Elite for the Fiihrer and Two Santa Clauses. Especially when the action takes place in and around Prague, he found work as an actor again and again in German television productions such as Tatort: ​​Heiße Grüße aus Prag and Die Diplomatin - Jagd durch Prag .
