Zecharia Sitchin ( Russian Захария Ситчин ; born July 11, 1920 in Baku , Azerbaijani SSR , Soviet Union ; † October 9, 2010 in New York , USA) was an American non-fiction author in the field of pre-astronautics .

Sitchin claimed in his books that by translating ancient pre-Christian Sumerian cuneiform texts, he found out that in prehistoric times extraterrestrial intelligences, the Anunnaki , who came from Nibiru , a hypothetical twelfth planet , colonized the earth and humans as work slaves would have created. On behalf of this way of life, man had to do work in mines, in which primarily gold was mined. The aliens would have visited Earth 432,000 years ago because of environmental problems on their home planet, whereby the pyramids in Egypt would have served as a landing aid. In addition, the Anunnaki mixed with human women and multiplied. Finally, 13,000 years ago, a great flood killed countless people, resulting in wars between humans and aliens.

Zecharia Sitchin published 13 books that have been translated into 25 languages.
