The Freudenberg colliery is a former hard coal mine in Mülheim . The mine was also known under the name Freidenberger Kohlberg . The mine was part of the Broich dominion .
Mining history
In the years 1734 to 1736, substations were already being built on the mine . During this time, the dewatering was carried out using hand pumps . The mine was in operation around the year 1750. At that time the mine was called Freidenberger Kohlberg. A tunnel was operated together with the Dimbeck colliery . The tunnel was set below the cotton manufacture Luisenthal and east ascended . After completion, the tunnel reached from Luisenthal to the fulling mill. Today the streets Lohscheidt, Hagdorn and Dimbeck are located in this area. However, the seams in this area were cut off by a main fault , which meant that no further pit was excavated from the tunnel . There is evidence that the mine was in operation in 1796, around 1839 and 1842. In 1851 it was reported that the Freudenberg colliery had been shut down, but the exact time of shutdown is not known. The reason for the closure was the geological fault.
