The Pik (Friedrich) Engels is a mountain in the Pamir Mountains .
location
The mountain has a height of 6510 m . The Pik Engels is the third highest mountain in the Chess Dara chain in the southwest of the Pamir Mountains.
Origin of name
The namesake is the German philosopher and economist Friedrich Engels . 3.9 km west-southwest of the mountain is the 6,726 m high Karl Marx peak , named after Engels' friend and work partner Karl Marx .
The mountain got its name during the Soviet period. Previously, he was one of the first Russian explorers to visit the remote area. Towards the end of the 19th century originally Pik Imperatrizy Marii - "Summit of Empress Maria" after Maria Fjodorovna, born Dagmar of Denmark (1847–1928) the wife of the Russian Tsar Alexander III. (1845-1894) named.
Ascent history
The first ascent was made in 1954 by a group of mountaineers led by M. Gvarliani.
