The Gertrud colliery was a mine on the Giepenbach between Tanne (Harz) and Trautenstein in the Harz region .

history

There is evidence that the mine had been in operation since the 14th century. The colliery is first mentioned in 1675 as Güpenbach . The mining was initially carried out in open-cast mining , and it was not until the second half of the 19th century that civil engineering began . The nearby Tanner Hütte was the main buyer of the iron ore extracted. The first mining phase ended in 1836 with the official cessation of mining. In 1873 the mine was reopened as Giepenbachsgrubenfeld , later Gertrud near Tanne colliery by the Trautenstein union . The last mining phase begins in 1897/98. During this time, a new shaft will be sunk and an ore processing plant will be built. The ores were transported by cable car. In 1907 mining was finally stopped and the buildings were demolished by 1925.

geology

The mining area extended along the geological boundary between the Tanner Zone and the Harzgeroder Zone. The main vein was the sheep Trifter lode with a thickness cm from 50th Above all, iron ore, galena , zinc blende and copper were mined at the Gertrud colliery .
