Architecture and history

The elongated three-storey building on a rectangular floor plan was built in 1782 by Johann Wilhelm Chryselius as the city palace of the von Zech family . From 1835 to 1894, it served as a state house and thus the meeting place for the representation of the estates, the then provincial parliament and forerunner of today's state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt , the Prussian province of Saxony . In the time of the GDR , the state-owned company for the equipment of mining and heavy industry (ABUS) had its headquarters in the building.

The seventeen-axis facade of the representative building is simple but monumental in the late Baroque style. The middle three axes of the house emerge as a flat mean risalit . The house entrance is located in the middle axis. The middle of the seven axes on the left and right is also designed as a flat risalit. The ground floor is ashlar. The building is covered with a mansard hipped roof .

As part of the conversion to the hotel wing in 1993/94, the building was restored and the interior of the building was greatly changed.

In the local register of monuments , the palace is listed as a monument under registration number 094 20263 .
