The magazine for book lovers appeared for the first time in 1897 and from 1899 was the official organ of the Society of Bibliophiles founded in Weimar that same year . The German-language magazine, designed for book lovers , was published until 1936 and was replaced in the same year by IMPRIMATUR - Yearbook for Book Lovers, which is still published today.

history

The magazine was first of Fedor von Zobeltitz issued . The first years were designed by Joseph Sattler in the Art Nouveau style. The work originally contained a supplement with separate messages, search, exchange and sale notices. In 1908 Carl Schüddekopf and Georg Witkowski became editors, and in 1909 Witkowski was co-editor. The magazine, which was published by Velhagen & Klasing in Bielefeld until 1908 , was then printed by Johannes Baensch-Drugulin in Leipzig . For reasons of profitability, the free delivery of the supplement was discontinued in the same year. On April 1, 1915, in the middle of World War I , Gustav Kirstein took over the magazine from the Leipzig-based publisher EA Seemann . In 1929 Georg Witkowski redesigned the paper in terms of content and appearance: the number of reviews it contained was reduced and a new supplement, the Bibliophile Wandelhalle (from 1932, the Wandelhalle der Bücherfreunde ) was introduced.

After the " seizure of power " by the National Socialists in 1933, both Witkowski as editor and Kirstein as publisher had to give up their work on the magazine. After von Zobeltitz's death in 1934, Albert Soergel and Konrad Friedrich Bauer were responsible for the publication until the magazine was discontinued in 1936.

In 1930 the Society of Bibliophiles in Weimar had bought the yearbook IMPRIMATUR ( Latin : imprimatur : it will be printed ) from the Society of Book Friends in Hamburg . Finally in 1936 the publication of the magazine for book lovers was stopped in favor of IMPRIMATUR . In 1937 the complete index for the magazine for book lovers was published .
