Konrad Friedrich Bauer

Konrad Friedrich Bauer (born December 9, 1903 in Hamburg , † March 17, 1970 in Schönberg ) was a German typographer and teacher .

Life

Konrad Friedrich Bauer studied art history in Frankfurt am Main and Marburg and completed his studies in 1926 with a doctorate . From 1928 he worked in the Bauersche foundry in Frankfurt am Main, of which he was artistic director from 1948 to 1968. During this time he began working with Walter Baum , the director of the foundry's graphic studio, with whom he developed numerous fonts from 1954 to 1963.

Between 1952 and 1964, Bauer was chairman of the jury for the “The Most Beautiful Books in Germany” competition, organized by the Book Art Foundation in Frankfurt am Main. From 1947-48, he also taught at the University of Mainz , the specialist book, writing and printing industry .
