The journal for German antiquity and German literature ( ZfdA for short ) is a specialist journal for German studies with a focus on the older section, but also contains papers on newer German literature.
The specialist journal was founded in 1841 by Moriz Haupt and is thus the oldest still existing specialist journal for ancient German studies. The magazine for German antiquity, so its full title, was preceded by the collection “Altdeutsche Blätter” (Leipzig 1836–1840, 2 vols.) Edited by Hoffmann von Fallersleben . From 1841 to 1875 the magazine initially appeared under the title "Anzeiger für Deutsches Altertum und Deutsche Literatur". It has been published quarterly since 1931.
The magazine for German antiquity is currently published by the Marburg Germanist Jürgen Wolf , succeeding Joachim Heinzle , and is published by S. Hirzel Verlag in Stuttgart .
Older volumes are available in digitized form via DigiZeitschriften (until 2005) and JSTOR (until 2006).
The ZfdA supplements have been appearing as a series of publications at irregular intervals since 1996 .
