Zeke Mullins

Reynolds "Zeke" Mullins (born July 11, 1925 in Harlem , New York City , † December 2019 ) was an American jazz musician ( piano ).

Live and act

Mullins first played the violin, soon after he switched to the piano. He began playing jazz in the early 1940s and worked steadily in Harlem for the following decades. In the early 1950s he began to work professionally in the region as a jazz musician; During his career he also played in clubs and venues such as Small's Paradise , Savoy Ballroom , Rockland Ballroom , Showmans Bar, Wells, Connies, Lenox Lounge and the Apollo Theater . From 1965 he toured extensively with Lionel Hampton and his orchestra for 24 years and during this time also recorded with Clark Terry , Panama Francis and The Savoy Sultans and Woody Herman .

Mullins left Hamptons band in 1989 when Illinois Jacquet also left. In his later years he played with Al Vollmer's Harlem Blues and Jazz Band; he also performed regularly at the Cajun restaurant in Chelsea. In 2008 he became a member of the house band of the Jazz Foundation of America , where he played at its Monday jam sessions for the Local 802 musicians' union. Most recently, he performed at the organization's Great Night in Harlem at the Apollo Theater in 2016 . In the field of jazz he was involved in 21 recording sessions between 1966 and 1993, according to Tom Lord .
