Zelta Zonk is a Berlin rock band that existed from 1970 to 1979.

history

At the end of the 1960s and the beginning of the 1970s, bands were formed in three consecutive upper school classes at the Fritz-Karsen-Schule in Berlin, who practice rock, blues and folk as well as experimental directions. In 1972 the bands mixed and Zelta Zonk was founded.

Initially, covers from the areas of hard rock , glam rock and blues were played. During this phase, recordings were made at local performances, which were released on CD in 2001. The first progressive rock tracks were added as early as 1973 . The band now also began to write their own pieces.

After a few shorter, more poppy tracks, more and more long, complex pieces with a running time of up to 25 minutes developed. In 1975 the Britzer Mittelstufenzentrum served as the main studio . The recordings were also released on CD in 2001.

From 1976/77 the band largely withdrew from the public. There were still some changes to the line-up, but no recordings were made. Andreas Pirner will take the studio material again in 2020, add to and revise it.

The name "Zelta Zonk" goes back to the biography Marilyn of the famous American writer Norman Mailer , who claims in his work that Marilyn Monroe used the name "Zel d a Zonk" as a pseudonym for (flight) bookings in the mid 1950s .
