Zeni Geva is a Japanese noise rock band. It was founded by the singer, guitarist and later music producer KK Null (actually Kazuyuki Kishino ) in 1987 in Tokyo as a "progressive hardcore trio". Therefore, the band's music contains elements of different metal - genres and bonds from noise rock, progressive rock and hardcore punk .

The name of the band is made up of the words "Zeni", an old Japanese word for "money", and "Geva", derived from the German word "violence".

history

Their studio albums have been produced by Steve Albini since 1992 , including the last studio album from 2001 called 10,000 Light Years . Albini worked partly as a guest musician on the early studio albums and in live performances and brought the band from 1993 to 1995 at Jello Biafras music label Alternative Tentacles , which the band subsequently received greater attention in the United States.

After 2002 the band members devoted themselves increasingly to other projects. Among other things, KK Null dealt with electronic music . In 2004 the live album Last Nanosecond - Live in Geneva was released , but it was recorded in 2002. Apart from that, only the band's first CD from 1990, Maximum Money Monster , was re-released with three additional live tracks from the time the CD was made; before 1990 only LPs and cassettes were released.

In 2009 the band was finally revived with the 1990 line-up of KK Null, Mitsuru Tabata and Tatsuya Yoshida and toured Japan and Europe. The following year, Alive and Rising (Live) was the first official release since the album Last Nanosecond , which was also recorded live in 2002. It contains material from concerts in Kyoto and Kobe from September 2009. It was also the band's first record in 20 years that was recorded again with founding member Tatsuya Yoshida on drums, who was last heard on Maximum Money Monster (1990) . Yoshida was then also responsible for mixing and mastering the recording material.

In April and May 2010 the band is on a European tour, with u. a. four appearances in Germany.
