The zfh - Center for Distance Learning in the University Association was founded in 1995 under the name “Central Office for Distance Learning at Universities of Applied Sciences - ZFH”. As the central scientific institution of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate with its headquarters in Koblenz , the zfh supports state universities for applied sciences in Rhineland-Palatinate, Hesse and Saarland . A state treaty ratified in 1998 on distance learning at universities of applied sciences between these three federal states forms the legal basis for cross-university cooperation within the zfh association. Due to the extensive renaming of the universities of applied sciences to "Universities of Applied Sciences", a new, contemporary name for the institution was introduced in 2018 on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the zfh association with regard to its external presentation: "zfh - Center for Distance Learning in the University Association ".

The zfh is based at the Koblenz University of Applied Sciences

organization

The zfh - Center for Distance Learning in the University Association is a central scientific institution of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate with its seat in Koblenz. On the basis of a state treaty between the federal states of Rhineland-Palatinate, Hesse and Saarland, it has been cooperating with the 14 universities of the three states since 1998 and together with them forms the zfh association. In addition, the zfh cooperates with other universities from Bavaria, Berlin, Brandenburg and North Rhine-Westphalia. The experienced team of the zfh promotes and supports the universities in the development and implementation of their distance learning programs. With a repertoire of over 80 extra-occupational distance learning courses in business, technical and social science subjects, the zfh association is Germany's largest provider of distance learning courses at universities with an accredited degree. All zfh distance learning courses with the academic goal of a bachelor's or master's degree are certified by the accreditation agencies ACQUIN, AHPGS, ASIIN, AQAS, FIBAA and ZEvA and are therefore internationally recognized. In addition to the bachelor's and master’s degree programs, there is also an extensive range of advanced training modules with university certificates. Almost 6,200 distance students are currently enrolled at the universities of the zfh network.

deals

The zfh's offers are tailored to the special needs of working people. You decide when, where and for how long you want to study. The distance learning concept of the zfh corresponds to the didactic approach of blended learning, a varied mixture of self-study, virtual learning components and presence phases. The students first develop the course content using study letters or learning software and are professionally accompanied and supported during self-study via a learning platform. Course content, topic-related forums, a chat environment and test tools are available on the learning platform. The varied design of self-study contributes significantly to motivation. Approx. three to four attendance weekends per semester serve to deepen and apply the knowledge you have acquired, to clarify open questions and to establish personal contact.

courses

Most of the courses can be taken on a modular basis. The study letters are structured to be self-instructing, and the self-acquired knowledge of the participants is checked and deepened through the processing of submission tasks.

The study letters are used by the participating universities and technical colleges in distance and face-to-face study .

The zfh currently employs 28 people. It has a pool of over 300 professors and lecturers who are also available as authors.
