Shimizu Zenzō
Shimizu Zenzō ( Japanese 清水 善 造 ; * March 25, 1891 in Misato , Gunma Prefecture ; † April 12 or August 12, 1977 in Osaka or Amagasaki ) was a Japanese tennis player .
Career
When he made his debut at the Wimbledon Championships in 1920, Shimizu immediately reached the final of the All-Comers competition. There he was defeated by the eventual winner Bill Tilden in three sets. The following year he made it to the semi-finals again, in which he had to admit defeat to the Spaniard Manuel Alonso . In 1921 he won the tournament at the Queen's Club in London . At the US Championships in 1922, he was also able to reach the quarter-finals.
At the Davis Cup in 1921 , he and his compatriot Kumagai Ichiya reached the final, which the Japanese team lost to the USA.
Shimizu died in 1977 at the age of 86.
