The independent city of Zhaoyuan ( Chinese  招遠 市  /  招远 市 , Pinyin Zhāoyuǎn Shì ) belongs to the administrative area of ​​the independent city ​​of Yantai on the Jiaodong Peninsula in the northeast of the east Chinese province of Shandong . Zhaoyuan has an area of ​​1,433 km² and at the end of 2007 had about 565,500 inhabitants.

The territory of Zhaoyuan is hilly and is shaped by the Jiaodong hill country. The main rivers are Dagu He and Jie He . The annual average temperature is 11.5 ° C, with about 671 mm of precipitation per year. Zhaoyuan has natural deposits of gold , silver , fluorite , quartz , copper and iron; the largest gold mining in China's county level is in Zhaoyuan. There are also numerous hot springs.

With the Neolithic Yangjia site and the Hanqucheng site as well as the Banxian Cave , some cultural monuments of Shandong Province are located in Zhaoyuan. Other attractions for visitors include Luoshan National Park , the numerous hot springs and resorts on the seashore.
