Zino Francescatti

Zino Francescatti (born August 9, 1902 in Marseille , † September 17, 1991 in La Ciotat ) was a French violinist and teacher of Italian descent.

Life

His parents were musicians, his father even a student of Camillo Sivori , Niccolò Paganini's most brilliant student . Zino Francescatti was a child prodigy who performed Ludwig van Beethoven's violin concerto in public at the age of ten . A career soon followed that promised the greatest fame, but - especially after the Second World War , before, during and after which Francescatti lived for a long time in the USA - despite all admiration, even admiration, it was conducted with relative modesty. Francescatti's artistic life was shaped by three acquaintances: the recognition of Jacques Thibaud , the friendship with Maurice Ravel - to whom he was as a violinist what Vlado Perlemuter was to him as a pianist , namely the guardian of original intentions - and the collaboration with Bruno Walter in his time in the USA.

Among Francescatti's numerous recordings, his duos with Robert Casadesus stand out, which testify to an incomparable mutual attention. His students include the French violinists Régis Pasquier , Gérard Poulet and Nina Bodnar .
