Cistercian Abbey Bonneweg

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Cistercian Abbey Bonneweg (also French: Bonnevoie ) was a monastery of the Cistercian women in Luxemburg (city) in Luxemburg from 1200 to 1796 .

history

From the care of lepers by benevolent women, the Cistercian convent Bonneweg was established in 1200 in the then diocese of Trier , which was confirmed by the Pope in 1234. Almost 600 years later, the French Revolution destroyed and dissolved the abbey. Remnants of the monastery wall have been preserved. The name of the Luxembourg district Bonneweg is also reminiscent of the former monastery.
