Cistercian Abbey of La Virginité
The Cistercian abbey La virginité was 1220-1791 a monastery of Cistercian nuns in Les Roches-l'Évêque , Canton Montoire-sur-le-Loir , Loir-et-Cher , France.
history
In 1220, Count John IV of Vendôme and his wife founded the Cistercian monastery of La Virginité (Latin: Virginitas , "virginity"), ten kilometers west of Vendôme, not far from the Loir , which was subordinated to the monastery of L'Aumône . In 1791 the monastery was closed by the French Revolution , later sold and dismantled. There are almost no residues. The remarkable choir stalls from the 15th century are in the church of Sougé , the organ in the church of Saint-Laurent in Montoire-sur-le-Loir . There are no street or field names that remind of the monastery.
