Cistercian Abbey of Saint-Pantaléon (Saint-Dizier)
The Cistercian Abbey of Saint-Pantaléon (Saint-Dizier) was 1227-1751 a monastery of Cistercian nuns in Saint-Dizier , a commune in the Haute-Marne in France .
history
Not far from the Trois-Fontaines monastery , Wilhelm II of Dampierre and Margaret II of Flanders donated the Notre-Dame de Saint-Dizier monastery (Latin: Sancti Desiderii ; later: Saint-Pantaléon , based on the relics of Saint Pantaleon kept there ) in 1227 . In 1747 the monastery was dissolved by the Bishop of Châlons , Claude-Antoine de Choiseul-Beaupré, due to over-indebtedness (legally effective 1751). The abbess was interned by Lettre de cachet , where she died in 1749. The nuns moved to the convent of the Abbey of Saint-Jacques (in Vitry-en-Perthois). After all the monasteries were dissolved by the French Revolution in 1791, only a few remnants (including the monastery portal) remain in a farm that bears the name "Ferme Saint-Pantaléon".
