The Cistercian convent of San Joaquín y Santa Ana has been a monastery of the Cistercian sisters since 1160 , first in Perales (Palencia), Comarca Tierra de Campos , from 1595 in Valladolid in Spain .

history

Perales

Count Nuño Pérez de Lara († 1177) and his wife Teresa Fernández de Traba founded the nunnery of Santa María de la Consolación (Maria Trost) in Perales, 20 kilometers north of Palencia in 1161 , which was settled by sisters from the Tulebras monastery from 1199 but Las Huelgas Monastery was subordinate to it. In 1593 Perales was the cradle of the Reform Congregation of the Bernardas Recoletas . There are no remains of the Perales monastery.

Valladolid

In 1595 the Cistercian Sisters of Perales moved to the nunnery of San Joaquín y Santa Ana ( Joachim and Anna , mostly shortened to Santa Ana ) on Calle Santa Ana in Valladolid, founded by King Philip II and built by Francisco Praves . The monastery reform of the Bernardas Recoletas started from here, which led to numerous new foundations and also included other existing monasteries. After it fell into disrepair, the monastery was rebuilt between 1780 and 1787 by Francisco Sabatini (1722–1797) at today's Plaza Santa Ana . It has been a listed building there since 1956. Since 1978 it has housed a museum of sacred art (Museo de San Joaquín y Santa Ana) with important works by Francisco de Goya , Gregorio Fernández (1634) and Pedro de Mena y Medrano (1670). The convent belongs to the Cistercian Congregation of San Bernardo (CCSB) .
