The Cistercian monastery of Saint-Apollinaire (also: Michelbach ) was from 1253 to 1791 a monastery first of the Cistercians , then the Cistercians in Michelbach-le-Haut , Department Haut-Rhin in France .

history

In 1144, the Counts of Pfirt founded a Benedictine monastery consecrated to the Virgin Mary , whose convent was replaced by Benedictine nuns in 1238 . In 1252 the monastery property was briefly transferred to the Wettingen monastery , and in 1253 permanently to the Lützel monastery . The nuns became Cistercian. Later Cistercian monks took their place. From 1334 the monastery (now the Priory of Lützel) was verifiably consecrated to St. Apollinaris of Ravenna and the destination of a popular pilgrimage. In 1791 the French Revolution led to the dissolution of the monastery. A stately building that still exists is privately owned. The street and domain name Saint-Apollinaire (near Folgensbourg ) reminds of the former monastery.
