Order of Civil Merit of Savoy
The Order of Civil Merit of Savoy was donated by Charles Albert , King of Sardinia-Piedmont on October 29, 1831.
history
The order was awarded either to residents or to persons who had acquired the same state rights and were of recognized merit. In particular at
- higher officials who had carried out an act without a special mandate from high administration,
- to scholars, writers and officials who wrote an important work,
- to engineers, builders and artists who have made a name for themselves through commendable works,
- to people who have made important discoveries or added improvements,
- to professors of science and literature, as well as to school directors of reputation.
The number of knights was fixed at fifty on November 16, 1850 and sixty on February 20, 1868. The pensions were reorganized by King Victor Emmanuel II on June 23, 1861.
Order classes
The order consisted of only one class of knights.
Order decoration
The order was a simple blue enameled cross with a gold border. In the round, gold-framed middle shield, on the front side, there is a golden inscription with the initials of the donor "CA" and on the back the words al merito civile 1831 as a motto of the order .
Ribbon and way of wearing
The ribbon was blue with two white stripes. The medal was worn on the left breast or in the buttonhole. From February 9, 1841, religious clothing was mandatory. This consisted of a blue uniform with ample gold embroidery. White trousers, silk stockings and shoes with gold buckles were part of it. A hat in a triangular shape (French style) with a black feather, gold agraffe and gold tassels completed the ceremony attire.
