This list gives an overview of orders and decorations in Italy as well as the awards made by Italian states before the unification of the country in 1861.
The lists in the following sections are not always complete.
Italian Republic
The Italian Republic has existed since 1946. Some orders and decorations were adopted by the Kingdom of Italy and the Kingdom of Sardinia . This can be seen from the foundation years in brackets.

Italian social republic
The fascist Italian Social Republic existed from September 1943 to April 1945 under German protection in northern Italy (until summer 1944 also in central Italy). In addition, the Allied occupied Kingdom of Italy continued until 1946.

Kingdom of Italy
The Kingdom of Italy emerged in 1861 from the Kingdom of Sardinia under the rule of the House of Savoy , whose medals and decorations thus continued to exist (again to be recognized by the foundation years in brackets).

Awards of the former states (before agreement)
The Kingdom of Sardinia is mentioned first because of its importance for the unification of Italy and because of its constitutional continuity, duchies last. Usually only medals are given.
Kingdom of Sardinia
The Kingdom of Sardinia fell in 1720 to the in Turin resident House of Savoy . The central rulership included Piedmont , Savoy and the county of Nice ( Liguria only from 1815). The following list refers to the House of Savoy and its dominion, which was called "Kingdom of Sardinia" from 1720 (in today's literature also "Sardinia-Piedmont").

Kingdom of the Two Sicilies
The Kingdom of Both Sicilies existed from 1816 to 1861 under the royal house of Bourbon-Sicily . Before that, the Kingdom of Naples and the Kingdom of Sicily were ruled in personal union.

Kingdom of Lombardy-Veneto
The Kingdom of Lombardy-Veneto existed from 1815 to 1859 (Veneto until 1866) and essentially comprised the former Duchy of Milan and the former Republic of Venice . King was in personal union the Emperor of Austria , which is why the country belonged to his empire . It is only mentioned here for geographical reasons. The Napoleonic Kingdom of Italy existed from 1805 to 1814.
