The commemorative medal of the March on Rome ( it. Medaglia commemorativa della Marcia su Roma ) was an award of the Kingdom of Italy , which on December 31, 1923 by decree in three stages by King Victor Emanuel III. in memory of the March on Rome and the coming to power of the Partito Nazionale Fascista under the leadership of Benito Mussolini . The only requirement was that the entrusted was involved in the march from October 27, 1922 to October 31, 1922 in active service.

The silver level was awarded 19 times to participating commanders and the bronze level to all other persons involved in the party. On January 31, 1926, the terms of the award were extended to the participating voluntary militias and finally softened on July 15, 1938 so that all members of the Italian armed forces could now receive the medal.

Appearance and wearing style

The gold, silver or bronze medal with a diameter of 34 mm shows the winged goddess Italia on her obverse , holding a laurel wreath in her right hand and a fasces in her left hand. Below and behind the figure you can see the symbolic representation of Roman legionaries, swords and fasces, stretched towards the sky. The lapel shows a square in the center, in which the rank and name of the entrant were engraved. This square is surrounded by the inscription MARCIA SV ROMA 27 OTTOBRE - 1 NOVEMBRE 1922 (March on Rome October 27 - November 1, 1922). The medal was worn on the upper left side of the chest. The 37 mm wide ribbon is half purple and half yellow and reflects the city colors of Rome .
