The commemorative medal for the unity of Italy ( it. Medaglia commemorativa dell'Unità d'Italia ) was an award of the Kingdom of Italy and was first donated on April 26, 1883 by decree 1294/83 by Umberto I in one step. The medal was reissued on January 19, 1922 and from this point on it could also be awarded to the holders of the commemorative medal for the Italian-Austrian war . The last new edition of the medal took place on August 18, 1940. It provided that the medal could now also be awarded to the participants in the March on Rome .

Appearance (1883)

The round silver medal with a diameter of 32 mm shows on its obverse the portrait of the father of Umberto I, Vittorio Emanuele II, looking to the right with the inscription VITTORIO EMANUELE II RE D'ITALIA . The reverse of the medal shows the three-line inscription UNITÀ / D'ITALIA / 1848-1870 (Unity of Italy 1848-1870) within a laurel wreath .

Appearance (1922)

The now bronze medal shows on its obverse the portrait of Vittorio Emanuele III looking to the right . with its title inscription VITTORIO EMANUELE III RE D'ITALIA . The reverse of the medal shows the three-line inscription UNITÀ / D'ITALIA / 1848-1918 (Unity of Italy 1848-1918) within a laurel wreath .

Appearance (1940)

The bronzed medal on the obverse is still identical to its predecessor, but now shows the corrected three-line inscription UNITÀ / D'ITALIA / 1848-1922 (Unity of Italy 1848-1922) on its reverse .

Carrying method

All types of medals were worn on the upper left chest of the borrower on a 33 mm wide band in the ratio red (4.5 mm) - white (6 mm) - green (12 mm) - white (6 mm) - red (4.5 mm) mm).
