The commemorative medal of the campaigns in East Africa ( it. Medaglia a ricordo delle campagne in Africa orientale ) was an award of the Kingdom of Italy , which on April 27, 1936 by decree by King Victor Emanuel III. for the participants of the Italo-Ethiopian War . The prerequisite for the award was a period of at least two months in the war zone between October 3, 1935 and May 5, 1936.

Appearance and wearing style

The round medal made of blackened bronze has a diameter of 32 mm and shows on its obverse the portrait of the donor facing right with the inscription VITT.EM.III.RE.D´ITALIA.IMP-DI.ETIOPIA (Vittorio Emanuel III König of Italy, Emperor of Ethiopia). The lapel shows the Fasces on the right and a mountain on the left with a massif in front of it. The inscription AFRICA ORIENTALE (East Africa) above the mountain . The mountain is the group of the Simien Mountains . The two-line inscription MOLTI NEMICI / MOLTO ONORE (Much enemy, much honor) can be read under this mountain range .

The medal was worn on the upper left side of the chest on a blue ribbon with five black vertical stripes in the middle.

Fighters were also given a Sicilian sword that was placed across the belt. Non-fighters only received the ribbon and medal.
