The commemorative medal for the campaigns in Africa ( it. Medaglia commemorativa delle campagne d'Africa ) was an award of the Kingdom of Italy , which was donated on November 3, 1894 by decree 463/94 by King Umberto I in one step. The award could be made to all members of the Italian armed forces who had fought for Italian Eritrea and Italian Somaliland . The same medal, with a different appearance, was also given by King Victor Emmanuel III. Initially also awarded for the Italo-Ethiopian War , until April 27, 1936, a special medal, the commemorative medal for the campaigns in East Africa , was donated.

Appearance and wearing style

The bronze medal with a diameter of 31 mm shows on its obverse the bust of the donor in full regalia, looking to the left . On models up to 1895, the reverse shows the inscription campagne d'Africa (African campaigns), from 1896 the inscription Partecipato alla campagna 1895–96 (Participated in the campaign 1895–96) within two laurel branches . From 1900 the medal with the head bust of King Vittorio, which could be seen on the obverse, was awarded.

The medal was worn on the upper left chest of the borrower on a red ribbon with a blue hem.
