The medal "For services to the Fund during the earthquake in Calabria and Sicily" ( it. Medaglia per il servizio presso l'Agenzia del terremoto in Calabria e Sicilia ) was an award of the Kingdom of Italy , which on May 6, 1909 by decree by King Victor Emmanuel III in three classes, bronze , silver and gold . The medal was awarded to deserving persons of the Italian aid organization in the removal of the earthquake damage in Calabria and Sicily, which on December 18, 1908, as an earthquake in Messina, cost between 72,000 and 110,000 people their lives.
Appearance and wearing style
The bronze, silver or gold-plated medal shows the left-facing head bust of King Viktor of Italy on its obverse and his name VITTORIO EMANUELLE III as a legend . The reverse shows the four-line embossed inscription within a closed laurel wreath with fruits: TERREMOTO / 28 DICEMBRE 1908 / IN CALABRIA / E IN SICILLA (earthquake December 28, 1908 in Calabria and Sicily). The medal was worn on the upper left chest of the borrower on a green ribbon with a white border.
