It consists of around 20 wooden houses, built in the typical Valais style. The village chapel is dedicated to St. Catherine of Alexandria , patron saint of Valais. The valley, through which the Zmuttbach flows, runs below the north face of the Matterhorn and begins at the Zmutt glacier on the border with the Aosta valley in Italy. The wall of the Zmutt reservoir was built in 1964 and is 74 m high. The lake is connected to the Grande Dixence dam system by tunnels .
A curiosity: an aerial cableway with two curves was built for the construction of this dam wall. This is very unusual for aerial tramways. The railway still exists; However, it only serves as a works railway, there is no public passenger transport.
