The Zollbrücke is a bridge over the Zollelbe in the Werder district of Magdeburg .

It represents the eastern extension of the Neue Strombrücke , over which the historical and still important eastern arterial road from Magdeburg's old town runs. A little further east of the Zollbrücke is the Anna-Ebert-Brücke , which spans the Old Elbe .

A first bridge over the Zollelbe existed at this point since 1828. However, bridges over the Elbe and its frequently changing tributaries had been in this area for centuries.

The construction work for the construction of today's three-arched bridge began in 1879, the completion took place in 1882. It was built solidly from bricks in cement mortar and faced with sandstone blocks. The total length is 43.6 meters, with pillar thicknesses between 3 and 3.3 meters, the clear widths of the arches measure 10, 17.50 and 10 meters. The bridge width between the parapets is 13.54 meters. Devices were integrated into the bridge to enable it to be blown up in the event of war.

Allegorical figure decoration (2012)

The bridge was decorated with four allegorical figures created by Emil Hundrieser depicting shipping, trade, industry and agriculture. The balustrade is also a work by Hundrieser. On the outside of the bridge piers, the coats of arms of the Hanseatic cities of Magdeburg, Hamburg and Brandenburg (Havel) and the city of Altona were attached on the north side and those of the cities of Leipzig , Dresden and Prague and the Hanseatic city of Berlin on the south side .

The keystones on the front face show Mercury and Kilian in the middle, and naiads on the sides . The figures originally erected on the bridge were largely weathered after more than 100 years and had to be removed. In 2006/2007 new figures were created based on old templates and found space on the bridge again.

The structure is to be relieved by a neighboring replacement building, a single- hip frame bridge with a span of around 70 meters.
