Zompros Stabschrecke ( Parapachymorpha zomproi ) is an after entomologists Oliver Zompro called insect from the order of the Gespenstschrecken (phasmatodea), which was discovered, October 1998.

features

The animals, which are wingless in both sexes, reach a length between 91.4 and 93.6 millimeters in the female sex. The males remain smaller with 72 to 77 millimeters in length. They are up to a few bright spots on the abdomen ( abdominal ) red-brown colored. In addition to various shades of brown, the thicker females also show black, gray and white spots, some of which are black on the rear edges of the meso- and metathorax and on the first abdominal segment in a typical pattern. There are noticeable lobes ( praise ) on the thighs of the middle legs . The front legs are longer than the other legs. The antennae are half as long as the fore legs, the first antenna segment is clear, the second only slightly flattened and broadened.

Occurrence and way of life

Zompro's stick insect is native to the northern foothills of the mountains in Khao Yai National Park in Thailand . There it was found on the edge of the monsoon forest .

In the event of a disturbance, the animals drop to the ground and then run away quickly. If they are grabbed by one leg, they throw it off and flee ( autotomy ). Nymphs can regenerate their legs in whole or in part (depending on the number of remaining molts) during the next molt .

Reproduction

Like most ghosts, Zompro's stick insect is capable of facultative parthenogenesis . In the absence of males, the animals can reproduce parthenogenetically. The females begin to lay eggs 20 days after their imaginal molt. After about three months, the nymphs hatch from the eggs, which themselves become adults after another three months .

Terrarium keeping

Ingo Fritzsche's first hatchlings hatched in January 1999. The species has also been bred by other phasmid owners since 2001. Zompro's stick insect can easily be fed with blackberry leaves in the terrarium . Temperatures around 25 ° C and a humidity of 80 to 90 percent, which can be achieved by regular spraying with lukewarm water, are sufficient for breeding.

Zompro's stick insect is listed under PSG number 224 by the Phasmid Study Group .
