The Zoo Aschersleben is a zoo in the southwestern city of Aschersleben in Saxony-Anhalt . It has around 70,000 visitors annually.
Investments
The zoo was founded in 1973 in the Alte Burg recreation area . The hilly, partly forest-like area of the zoo covers about 10 hectares and also encloses the last remains of Aschersleben Castle , which are now fenced and serve as an enclosure for the eagle owls kept in the zoo .
The zoo is staffed with around 420 animals from around 80 species . A special focus is the keeping of monkeys and felines , especially with regard to the generous, approximately 2000 m² outdoor enclosure for Siberian tigers , which was created in 2004. Two white tigers have also been held since 2006/07 .
Many enclosures were modernized and rebuilt after the political change in 1989 . In 1997 a large facility for ocelots and a walk-in aviary were built . In 1999 a 500 m² Jaguar system followed. In 2000 the naturally designed enclosure for spectacled bears with an area of 1500 m² was opened.
Maintained species (selection)
Aschersleber Zoo participates in the European conservation breeding program for spectacled bears , Diana amers , golden-headed lion tamarins and salt cats .
In addition, the following animals are kept: alpaca , antelope , barbary macaque , bristle armadillo , buzzard , owls , flamingo , flying fox , domestic pig , jaguar , camels , coal tortoise , marmoset , llama , litchi moor antelope , mini pig , muntjac , nile crocodile , ocelot , panther , parrot , peacock , python , pony , Siberian tiger , squirrel monkey , owl , beard monkey (the only zoo in Germany), White Tiger, Zebra , goat .
Tourist offer
There has been a planetarium inside the zoo since 1976 . A true-to-scale model of the solar system was created along the way through the zoo to the planetarium . Since 2003 there has been a zoo school where biology lessons can be organized.
