The Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical Garden , in short: HKZBG ( Chinese 香港 動植物 公園 / 香港 动植物 公园 , Pinyin Xiānggǎng Dòngzhíwù Gōngyuán , Jyutping Hoeng 1 gong 2 Dung 6 jik 6 mat 6 Gung 1 jyun 4 ' 2 ) is located in the middle of the jungle of houses in Hong Kong on Hong Kong Island .
Around 600 birds and around 100 species of mammals and reptiles live on almost six hectares , and their enclosures are framed by tropical plants such as palms and banana trees . The animal population only includes species that are at home in the tropical latitudes of the world.
The main attractions of the garden, founded in 1871, are orangutans , meerkats , gibbons and ring-tailed lemurs . Furthermore, various species of marmosets from South America and Malagasy lemurs can be seen. In addition to snakes, reptiles are represented by the rare Chinese alligators .
Entry is free for everyone.
