Zoran Žiletić

Zoran Žiletić (born October 14, 1933 in Belgrade , Kingdom of Yugoslavia ; † December 15, 2013 in Belgrade, Serbia ) was a Serbian German studies specialist and university professor .

Life

Zoran Žiletić attended schools in his hometown and also completed his German studies there. He was appointed full professor at the University of Belgrade , where he repeatedly headed the chair for German studies. From 1994 to 1995 he worked at the Institute for Eastern Europe at the Free University of Berlin , where he received a grant from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation for a project of his choice.

Žiletić's obituary listed these main focuses of his teaching: “Medieval German literature, the history of the German language with the parallel grammar of German languages, word formation, the phonology of the contemporary German language and German linguistics of the 20th century. He examined the word formation of the German language, the differences between the grammatical systems in the current German and Serbo-Croatian language, the principle of arithmetical presentation of the language corpus, the principle of periodization of the history of languages, the history of the contrastive analysis of the German and Serbo-Croatian languages, the history of the Settlement of the Habsburg Vojvodina and the history of the Serbian-Danube-Swabian and Serbian-German relations in the 20th century. "

Memberships

Žiletić was given early retirement in 1998 at his own request. He was a corresponding member of the Scientific Council of the Institute for German Language in Mannheim, corresponding member of the Southeastern Europe Society in Munich, board member of the Institute for German Culture and History of Southeastern Europe at the LMU Munich , member of the Scientific Council of the Center against Expulsion in Wiesbaden, full member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts in Salzburg. He was one of the founding members of the “Society for Serbian-German Cooperation” in Belgrade and its first chairman.

Honors

Since 2001 he has been the holder of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany for special services to Serbian-German relations. In 2007 Žiletić received the gold badge from the "Union of Danube Swabians in the USA". On June 11, 2011 he was awarded the Cross of Honor for Science and Art, 1st Class . In addition, the Donauschwaben regional team of Upper Austria awarded him their gold medal of merit.
