Zort is an Argentine band that was formed in 1998. Their style is a fusion between trip-hop , breakbeat and world music , but they have produced their own sound within electronic music . The band members live in Córdoba and Buenos Aires .
Career
The band had started with a mixture of trip-hop and breakbeat, which is evident in the first album Anillo Saturiano (1999), which was still independently produced. With the album Retornar de las Mareas (2001) she slowly broke away from the conventions of these styles and integrated elements of various folklore styles from around the world, ambient and acid jazz , whereby the Argentine scene of electronic dance music became aware of the band.
The band made their breakthrough with the album Más Poco (2003). In addition to a minimalist basis in the form of broken, electronic rhythms, Zort also integrated unconventional elements such as instrumental improvisation and free form for trip-hop . In the same year the band followed their first European tour with a focus on Germany and Spain, where they performed, for example, in the Berlin Sage Club and the Hamburg Golden Pudel Club . Parts of the album and some newly composed tracks were used for the soundtrack of the film Auf Der Suche nach ... by German-Peruvian Alejandro Cárdenas (2004).
The improvisational elements were deepened in the album Foco Lejos (2005), in which some songs were created on the basis of improvisations by the band at live concerts. This time, too, a European tour was undertaken after the publication.
style
Today's instruments consist of electronic instruments and the interplay between the flute, clarinet and accordion. The sound is also shaped by drum loops composed of drum computer sounds and distorted noises, which are often danceable despite the sometimes fragmented rhythms.
The performances of the band are accompanied by video projections, which have become an inseparable part of the performance.
