Zuhal Olcay
Zuhal Olcay (* 10. August 1957 in Istanbul as Zuhal İşanç ) is a Turkish actress and singer .
Personal
Zuhal Olcay was married to the actor Haluk Bilginer , with whom she founded the theater "Oyun Atölyesi" in 1999.
Life
After graduating from the Ankara State Conservatory in 1976, Olcay first became a prominent theater actress in Turkey and received the Avni Dilligil Special Prize for Theater in 1986. In 1983 she had also started a career as a television actress, which then led her to Turkish cinema. An excursion into German film brought the actress the gold film tape at the German Film Awards in 1989 . She received this for her portrayal of Elif in Tevfik Başer's novel, Farewell to False Paradise . In addition, Olcay was honored with Turkish film prizes, around 2002 at the Istanbul International Film Festival as best actress for her performance in Hiçbiryerde .
Trial for insulting the president
In March 2018, she was sentenced to ten months in prison for insulting President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan . At a concert in August 2016, Olcay modified the text of the song Boş Vermişim Dünyayı with reference to Erdoğan and made an insulting hand gesture . The prosecution called for a minimum of 14 months' imprisonment. In July 2018, she was given a suspended sentence of 11 months and 20 days. To do this, she is not allowed to leave the city of Istanbul for 18 months and has to report to the police regularly.
