Haluk Bilginer (born June 5, 1954 in Izmir ) is a Turkish theater and film actor . In March 1999 he founded the theater "Oyun Atölyesi" together with Zuhal Olcay .

Life

Haluk Bilginer is the son of the insurance salesman Tahsin Bilginer and his wife Bedriye Bilginer. He graduated from İzmir Türk Koleji High School. In the last year of school, he entered the high school theater and became a student of Cahit Gürkan. He received his first award from the Demokrat İzmir newspaper, whose competition between high schools he won. At the invitation of the theater director Ragıp Haykır, who was on the jury, he came to the Izmir State Theater as a guest actor. In 1971 he began studying theater at the Ankara State Conservatory.

After completing his studies, he worked in the state theater. In 1977 he continued his education at LAMDA in London . From 1980 to 1993 he played in television series and in theaters in the UK . In the series EastEnders he played the role of Kıbrıslı Mehmet Osman from 1985 to 1989.

In 1987 he came to Istanbul for the first time to shoot the film Gecenin Öteki Yüzü (The Other Face of the Night) and met Zuhal Olcay on the set, whom he married in 1992. For a while he lived between Istanbul and London. After getting married in 1992, the couple starred in Hollywood in the series Indiana Jones and in Turkey in Yavuz Özkan 's film İki Kadın (Two Women). He became known through the reality show Sıcağı Sıcağına (It's getting hot) on the Show TV channel . From 1996 he starred in films such as the film 80th Adım (The 80th Step) by Tomris Giritlioğlu , İstanbul Kanatlarımın Altında (Istanbul under my wings), Usta Beni Öldürsene and Masumiyet .

In 1990 Haluk Bilginer founded the “Studio Theater” with Ahmet Levendoğlu and Zuhal Olcay. There he starred in Aldatma , Kan Kardeşleri (blood brothers), Derin Bir Soluk Al (take a deep breath), Çöplük (garbage), Histeri (hysteria) and Balkon . In order to own a theater stage, he rented a cinema and expanded it. The building was destroyed by fire in 1999. The couple then built a stage in the Moda district of Istanbul, where they founded the “Oyun Atölyesi” theater.

In 2006 Haluk Bilginer married the pop singer, composer and cello player Aşkın Nur Yengi and had a daughter with her.
