Tevfik Baser

Tevfik Başer (* 1951 in Çankırı , Turkey ) is a Hamburg film director and writer.

Artistic career

The graduate of the film class at the Hamburg University of Fine Arts was originally a photographer. From 1978 he trained as a cameraman and camera assistant in Germany.

His first feature film 40 m² Germany (1986) was awarded the “Golden Leopard” at the Locarno International Film Festival . At the Cannes Film Festival it was shown during the “Week of Criticism” and received the German Film Prize in several categories as well as a nomination for “Best Feature Film”.

His Farewell to False Paradise (1989) after Saliha Scheinhardt was also nominated for the German Film Prize, his leading actress Zuhal Olcay received him as "best actress".

Lebewohl, Fremde (1991), about the problems of a Turkish refugee and a German on the Hallig Langeneß, had its premiere in the competition at the Cannes Film Festival in 1991.

He received the audience award of the “Marler Gruppe” at the 2005 Grimme Prize for the book zu Zeit der Wünsche (2004) .
