The Zuiderduintjes ( German Small South Dunes ) are a small dune island in the Dutch Wadden Sea between Rottumeroog and the mainland. The dunes are now over a kilometer from Rottumeroog. Rottumeroog used to reach so far south. There is little vegetation on the island, which is mainly inhabited by seals and birds. In 1997 a group of brooding cormorants was spotted.
In 2007 the island had an area of 74 hectares .
Like Rottumeroog, the Zuiderduintjes are part of the nature reserve and are therefore not allowed to be entered. The island belongs to the Dutch province of Groningen , and the "Staatsbosbeheer", a national nature conservation organization, is responsible for the administration.
