Richel is the name of a sandbank in the Wadden Sea , about 1 km east of the northernmost point of the island of Vlieland . The sandbank belongs to the Dutch municipality of the same name, Vlieland.

Richel has an area of 116 hectares and is essentially devoid of vegetation. It is temporarily overgrown by beach couch grass (Elytrigia juncea subsp. Boreoatlantica). The island is an important breeding area for the ringed plover ( Charadrius hiaticula ), the Kentish plover ( Charadrius alexandrinus ) and the little tern ( Sterna albifrons ), which occur in varying numbers. In addition, Richel is the most important resting area for the gray seal in the Wadden Sea.
