To the swan (Wanfried)
The Gasthaus Zum Schwan in Wanfried , a country town in the Werra-Meißner district in North Hesse , was built in the middle of the 17th century. The half-timbered house at Marktstrasse 20/22, next to Wanfried's town hall , is a protected architectural monument .
history
According to the inscription above the stone portal , the half-timbered house was built in 1690. According to an age determination of the wood used, the building was probably built in the years 1655/56. It was built on an old vaulted cellar from a previous building. More than 400 years ago, the house was known as a hostel near the town hall . The city of Wanfried purchased the run-down building in 1995 and carried out extensive renovation work. In 2002 the building was put back into operation as a hotel with a restaurant and citizens' hall.
