architecture

The church is located on the northeastern edge of the town center on Erlenbach in the street Im Sauern . The church, a community hall and youth rooms were built according to plans by the architect Günter Pfeifer over a period of four years. The uses are arranged in individual buildings and combined to form a structural ensemble on a rectangular floor plan. The square is structured by open paths. The outer walls of the differently sized structures are made of wood and exposed concrete . An internal alley leads to the church foyer.

The interior is characterized by different room zones, which are staged by individual lighting. The main room is lit from above and through a cross-shaped wall section in the apse . In the room zones on both sides of the church hall there is a tabernacle room , Mary's chapel, baptistery and side rooms. Wood and concrete also dominate inside. The chairs and the lower part of the walls are made of light woods. The walls and ceiling of the Lady Chapel, which is located under the organ gallery, are painted blue. The baptistery is illuminated by a high skylight.

Equipment and bell

The furnishings were designed by the architect. Three groups of benches with 130 seats are grouped around the altar island. The exposed concrete altar is provided with a steel plate with inlaid anointing stones made of basalt. The font is made of concrete and basalt.

The four bells were made by the Monasterium bell foundry in 1965 and come from the previous church.

local community

The Church of Jesus Christ - the Good Shepherd is a branch church of the Harheim parish of St. Jakobus . It belongs to the deanery Wetterau-West in the diocese of Mainz . Until the post-war period, only a few Catholics lived in the evangelical Nieder-Erlenbach. It was only through the displaced people that they grew into a community. In 1962, by converting a barn, a house of worship was built on Brandenburger Weg . After it became dilapidated, the decision to build the new church was made in the 1990s. It was inaugurated on August 27, 2000 by Bishop Karl Lehmann .
