Günter Pfeifer

Günter Pfeifer (born July 18, 1943 in Schopfheim ) is a German architect and emeritus professor of architecture.

Life

From 1963 to 1967 Günter Pfeifer studied architecture at the Staatliche Werkkunstschule in Kassel . In 1975 he founded his own architectural office based in Freiburg im Breisgau and Lörrach , where he worked as an architect until 2000. From 1979 to 1986 he had an office partnership with Thomas Heiss, 1989-1993 with Roland Mayer. Between 1987 and 1993 he worked with the internationally renowned architects Frank O. Gehry , Zaha M. Hadid , Tadao Ando and Alvaro Siza .

From 1992 to 2012 he was a full professor at the TU Darmstadt , initially for design and building construction, from 2001 for design and housing construction.

From 2001 to 2005, alongside Harald Roser and Christoph Kuhn, he was a partner in the Pfeifer Roser Kuhn office based in Freiburg im Breisgau . From 2005 to 2012 he ran the pfeifer office there. bold. architects in partnership with Christoph Kuhn. The "Pfeifer Architects" office in Freiburg im Breisgau has been under his management since 2013 and the "BaruccoPfeifer Architecture" office in partnership with Lisa Barucco in Darmstadt since 2014 .

The main focus of the office is on housing and building in the church sector. Günter Pfeifer's projects in 2000 included the church with the community center Jesus Christ, the Good Shepherd in Frankfurt-Nieder-Erlenbach and, in 2006, the redesign of St. Antonius Church in Stuttgart-Kaltental, which was built in 1932 by Hans Herkommer . For the redesign of the interior of the Augustinus Church in Heilbronn , which was implemented in 2008 , he was awarded the Hugo Häring State Prize of the Association of German Architects in 2012.

Günter Pfeifer is also concerned with alternative design strategies for solar construction . His approach here is to achieve a “ cybernetic ”, i.e. holistically considered concept for the energetic optimization of the buildings , if possible with structural and architectural means . Günter Pfeifer is the author of numerous specialist publications.

In 2009 Pfeifer was awarded the Gottfried Semper Architecture Prize of the Saxon Academy of the Arts .
