Rolf Ramcke
Rolf Ramcke (also: Rolf-Dieter Ramcke ; born November 4, 1933 in Alveslohe ; † June 12, 2020 ) was a German architect , non-fiction author and university professor whose main place of work was Hanover .
Life
From 1962 to 1996, Rolf-Dieter Ramcke worked for more than three decades as a design architect for public buildings in the building department of the city of Hanover.
Ramcke's early work included his award-winning design for the daycare center Sylter Weg 20 , which opened in 1967 in the Hanover district of List and was listed as a historical monument in 2012 .
Ramcke's new building of the (then) University of Music and Drama Hanover (HMTH), which was built between 1970 and 1973, was spectacular in place of the previously demolished city restaurant Neues Haus : The floor plan of the university can only be seen from a bird's eye view in the form of a snail or an ear which curves around an open inner courtyard in fair-faced concrete.
Rolf Ramcke took on two honorary professorships in Berlin :
- for library planning, library architecture and library construction history at the Free University of Berlin
- as well as at the Philosophical Faculty I of the Humboldt University in Berlin
