The tongues saxifrage ( Saxifraga callosa ) is a species in the genus saxifrage ( Saxifraga ) in the family Saxifragaceae (Saxifragaceae).
features
The tongue saxifrage is a perennial plant that reaches heights of 20 to 60 centimeters. There are many non-flowering rosettes . The rosette leaves are variable in shape and size. They are linear to elongated lanceolate , measure 30 to 100 × 3 to 6 millimeters, are leathery-fleshy, with entire margins , slightly pointed at the front, often reddish at the base and appear notched due to lime-secreting pits. The stem is slender, hangs down arched. From the middle it branches like panicles with the dense and rich-flowered, more or less bare and often one-sided inflorescence . The flower stalks are thin, reddish and have four or more flowers. The petals are white, three-veined, often dotted at the base and have a length of 6 to 9 millimeters.
Flowering time is from May to July.
The chromosome number of the subsp. callosa is 2n = 28.
Occurrence
The tongue saxifrage in the subspecies subsp. callosa occurs in the Maritime Alps , the Ligurian Alps , the Apennines , in Sardinia and in Sicily montane and subalpine on limestone cliffs at altitudes of 500 to 2000 meters.
