The dwarf parrots (Micropsittini) are a tribe of the real parrots (Psittacidae).
The affiliation of the genera Cyclopsitta and Psittaculirostris to this taxon is not entirely undisputed.
Other genera of small parrots that are not closely related to the dwarf parrots are, for example, the bat parrots ( Loriculus ), the sparrow parrots ( Forpus ) and the lovebirds ( Agapornis ).
The tribe in the current version contains 3 genera with a total of 11 species.
distribution
All species occur in the island world north of Australia from the Moluccas to New Guinea and the Bismarck Archipelago to the Solomon Islands . The most widespread species, the red-cheeked dwarf parrot ( Cyclopsitta diophthalma ), also inhabits the east coast of Australia , south to the north-east of New South Wales .
