Plum dumplings are a dish in Austrian , Hungarian and Czech cuisine (hence the spelling with k). They belong to the pastries .

Plums are wrapped in a batter , formed into a dumpling and cooked in hot water . A yeast , curd , potato or choux pastry can be used as the batter :

They are then rolled in crumbs that have previously been browned in hot butter. Instead of breadcrumbs, a mixture of ground poppy seeds and caster sugar is also used in Bohemia .

Instead, the dumplings are often sprinkled with icing sugar or cinnamon sugar or with crushed gingerbread crumbs. Or the very dry Czech curd cheese is rubbed and poured over the dumplings.

At the table, the dumplings are often doused with melted butter .
